Built Different. Installed By People Who Know What They're Doing.
Most garage door companies install standard doors off a truck. We build custom solutions — full view aluminum and glass doors, real wood overlays, high-lift track conversions, and multi-spring systems that other companies won't touch. If your project requires more than a catalog pick, you're in the right place.
Every project below is something we've done — not something we pulled off a manufacturer's website. This is real custom work, performed by technicians who understand the engineering behind every hinge point, spring calculation, and track angle.
The modern look — aluminum frames with tempered glass panels. We install full view doors from Clopay (Avante), Amarr (Vista), and custom-fabricated options. Clear, frosted, tinted, and insulated glass available. These doors require precise track alignment and reinforced header framing that most installers skip.
Real wood mounted over a steel or aluminum frame — the look of a carriage house door with the durability of modern construction. We build overlays from cedar, mahogany, and reclaimed wood. Each overlay is custom-measured, stained or finished on-site, and mounted with concealed hardware. We also repair and refinish existing wood overlay doors.
Standard garage door tracks curve 90° and run along the ceiling. High-lift systems raise the door vertically before transitioning — giving you full ceiling clearance for lifts, storage, or tall vehicles. We convert existing standard-lift doors to high-lift and install new high-lift systems from scratch. Requires recalculated spring systems, extended vertical track, and reinforced mounting.
Heavy doors — solid wood, oversized custom panels, insulated commercial-weight residential doors — need more than two springs. We engineer and install 3-spring and 4-spring torsion systems with matched wire gauges, cycle ratings, and balanced tension across all springs. This is precision work that most companies don't have the experience or tooling to handle.
Wood doors rot, warp, crack, and delaminate — especially in Arkansas humidity. We repair solid wood panels, replace individual staves, rebuild bottom sections, refinish weathered surfaces, and re-seal doors that have lost their protection. If your custom wood door can be saved, we'll save it. If it can't, we'll tell you honestly and build the replacement.
Stamped carriage house doors are everywhere. Real carriage house doors — with decorative hardware, arched windows, custom paint matching, and period-correct details — take a different level of skill. We install and service every major carriage house line and custom-build overlay panels that turn a standard door into something that looks like it belongs on a $500K home.
Full view doors have gone from architectural novelty to the most requested custom door style in Central Arkansas. They flood garages with natural light, create a seamless indoor-outdoor transition, and dramatically increase curb appeal on modern and transitional homes.
But they're not just glass in a frame. Proper installation requires reinforced headers (these doors are heavier than they look), precise track leveling (any deviation shows through the glass), insulated glass options for climate control, and spring systems calculated for the specific weight of your configuration.
We've installed full view doors on everything from downtown Little Rock lofts to lakefront properties in Hot Springs Village. We work with Clopay Avante, Amarr Vista, and direct-order aluminum systems for oversized openings that standard product lines can't cover.
Starting at $3,000 installed — pricing varies by glass type, frame finish, and opening size. We provide free on-site consultations with exact measurements and a firm quote.
A standard residential garage door takes up 12–14 feet of ceiling space when open. That's fine for parking cars — but if you need a lift, overhead storage, or clearance for tall vehicles and equipment, that horizontal track run kills your usable space.
High-lift conversions raise the horizontal-to-vertical transition point — the door travels further up the wall before curving onto the ceiling. Full vertical lift eliminates the ceiling run entirely. Either way, you get your ceiling back.
This isn't a bolt-on kit. Converting to high-lift requires extended vertical track sections, recalculated torsion springs (the leverage geometry changes completely), new cables and drums sized for the increased lift height, reinforced wall mounting, and often a jackshaft opener since standard ceiling-mount openers can't handle the modified track path.
We convert existing doors to high-lift and install new high-lift systems from scratch. Free on-site assessment to determine what your ceiling height and wall structure can support.
A wood overlay takes a standard insulated steel door and transforms it into something that looks like a $10,000 custom carriage house door — at a fraction of the cost. Real wood planks are custom-cut, stained or painted to match your home, and mounted over the steel panels with concealed fasteners.
We work with cedar (naturally rot-resistant, weathers beautifully), mahogany (rich color, extremely durable), and reclaimed wood (for that authentic aged look). Every overlay is measured on-site, fabricated to your door's exact panel dimensions, and finished before installation.
The added weight of wood overlay panels means your spring system needs to be recalculated. A standard 2-spring setup may need to be upgraded to a 3-spring system depending on the wood species and thickness. We handle that as part of the installation — not as an afterthought.
We also repair and refinish existing wood overlay doors — sanding, re-staining, sealing, replacing warped or rotted planks, and reattaching panels that have come loose. Arkansas humidity is brutal on wood doors. Annual maintenance extends their life dramatically.
Most residential garage doors run on two torsion springs. That works for a standard 16x7 steel door weighing 150–200 lbs. But custom doors — solid wood, full view with insulated glass, oversized openings, wood overlay on insulated steel — can weigh 300–500+ lbs. Two springs can't safely handle that load.
We engineer 3-spring and 4-spring torsion systems for heavy custom doors. Each spring is calculated individually — wire gauge, inside diameter, coil count, and cycle rating are matched so all springs share the load evenly and wear at the same rate. Mismatched springs cause uneven tension, premature failure, and doors that don't track straight.
This is the kind of work where experience matters. We've been building multi-spring systems for oversized and custom doors across Central Arkansas for over a decade. If another company told you your door "can't be fixed" or "needs a full replacement" because of the spring setup — call us for a second opinion.
Direct Service was selected by HGTV to install custom garage doors on a Central Arkansas home transformation. Our custom work was showcased on national television — because when the cameras are rolling, you call the company that gets it right the first time.
Most garage door companies are set up to swap springs and install catalog doors. Custom work requires a different skill set, different tools, and a different level of give-a-damn. Here's what separates a custom installation from a standard one:
Every custom door has a unique weight. Full view doors with insulated glass, wood overlays, oversized panels — the spring system must be engineered for the exact load. Get it wrong and the door won't balance, the opener strains, and components fail early. We weigh or calculate every custom door before selecting springs.
High-lift conversions, vertical lift systems, and oversized openings all require custom track configurations. Standard track kits don't fit. We fabricate and modify track systems on-site to match your specific ceiling height, wall structure, and door weight.
Wood expands and contracts with humidity. Glass adds weight unevenly. Aluminum frames flex differently than steel. Every material affects how the door operates, how the springs are calculated, and how the door ages over time. We've worked with all of them — for years, not months.
Heavy custom doors need heavy-duty hinges, commercial-grade rollers, reinforced bottom brackets, and properly rated cables. Using standard residential hardware on a 400 lb custom door is a safety hazard. We spec every component for the actual load.
Your garage opening was framed for a standard door. A heavier custom door may require header reinforcement, additional king studs, or modified jamb mounting. We assess the structure before installation — not after the new door is already hanging crooked.
Custom doors are meant to be looked at. Every panel alignment, every seal gap, every piece of hardware placement matters visually. Our installations are finished to a standard where the door looks intentional — not retrofitted. That's why HGTV called us.
We provide custom garage door installation, repair, and consultation across all 12 of our Central Arkansas service cities. Same team, same standards, no mileage surcharges.
Custom door pricing varies significantly by type. Full view aluminum and glass doors start around $3,000 installed. Custom wood overlay on an existing insulated door starts around $2,000–$4,000 depending on wood species and complexity. High-lift conversions on existing doors run $1,500–$3,500. Fully custom solid wood doors can range from $5,000–$12,000+. We provide free on-site consultations with exact pricing — no ballpark guessing.
In most cases, yes. The main requirements are sufficient ceiling height (you need the vertical wall space above the opening for the door to travel) and a wall structure that can support the modified track mounting. We assess both during a free on-site consultation. If the conversion is feasible, we can often reuse your existing door panels and just modify the track, springs, cables, and opener.
A wood overlay mounts real wood planks over an insulated steel or aluminum door — you get the look of wood with the insulation and durability of a modern door underneath. A solid wood door is all wood, no metal core. Overlays are lighter, more weather-resistant, and significantly less expensive. Solid wood doors are heavier (often requiring 3-4 spring systems), require more maintenance, and cost 2-3x more. For most homeowners, a wood overlay delivers the same visual impact at a fraction of the cost and maintenance.
Yes. We repair, refinish, and restore custom doors including wood overlay re-staining and sealing, warped panel replacement, rotted wood section rebuilds, glass panel replacement on full view doors, high-lift track and spring adjustments, and multi-spring system rebalancing. If your custom door needs work, we're one of the only companies in Central Arkansas equipped to handle it.
A standard 2-spring torsion system handles doors up to about 250 lbs safely. Heavier doors — solid wood, insulated full view glass, oversized panels — can weigh 300–500+ lbs. Overloading a 2-spring system causes premature spring failure, opener strain, uneven door travel, and safety risks. Adding a third or fourth spring distributes the load properly, extends component life, and keeps the door balanced. Every spring is individually calculated for wire gauge, coil count, and cycle rating.
