Common Track Problems

Track Issues
We Fix Every Day

Off-Track Door

The door has jumped out of the track channel — usually at the top or where the track curves. Most common cause: worn rollers with flat spots. We re-seat the door safely, replace failed rollers, and straighten any track damage. Never force an off-track door.

Bent Track Section

Vehicle impact, settling foundation, or years of roller wear can bend the track. Minor bends can be straightened in place. Sharp creases or cracks require section replacement. We assess honestly — never replace what can be safely repaired.

Misaligned Vertical Track

The vertical tracks on either side of the door must be plumb and equally spaced. If one shifts — from loose brackets, settling, or impact — the door binds, drags, or won't seal at the bottom. Realignment is typically a quick fix.

Horizontal Track Sag

The horizontal tracks that run along the ceiling can sag from loose supports or the weight of the door over time. This causes the door to stick at the top of travel or not open fully. We re-secure and level the horizontal runs.

Loose Track Brackets

Vibration from daily operation loosens the lag bolts that hold the track to the wall and ceiling. The track shifts, rollers bind, and the door starts making noise. We re-anchor with proper hardware and check every bracket.

Track Obstruction

Debris, paint drips, or rust buildup inside the track channel causes rollers to catch or skip. We clean the track channel, inspect for damage, and lubricate. Often solves noise and binding issues without any part replacement.

Root Causes

Why Tracks Bend &
Doors Jump Track

🔩

Worn Rollers (Cause #1)

Rollers with flat spots or cracked wheels put lateral force on the track instead of rolling smoothly. Over time, this bends the track. We always inspect rollers during track repair — fixing the track without fixing the rollers means it bends again.

🚗

Vehicle Impact

Bumping the bottom of the track with a car — even gently — can bend or shift it. The damage may not be visible but causes binding during operation. Common in tight garages.

🏠

Foundation Settling

Arkansas clay soil shifts with moisture changes. When the garage slab or walls settle unevenly, the door frame shifts and tracks go out of alignment. We shim and re-anchor to compensate.

💪

Forcing a Stuck Door

The single worst thing you can do. If the door is stuck, forcing it — with the opener or by hand — bends the track, damages rollers, and can snap cables. Always call a professional instead of forcing it.

Common Questions

Track Repair
Questions & Answers

How much does garage door track repair cost?

Track realignment runs $125–$175. Straightening a bent section is $150–$250. Full track replacement on one side is $200–$350. Track + roller combo work is $300–$500. We give you an exact upfront quote after diagnosing the issue. Call (501) 244-3667.

My door came off the track — what should I do?

Stop operating the door immediately. Don't try to force it back on track — that bends the track, damages rollers, and can snap cables. Call us for same-day service. We re-seat the door safely and fix the root cause.

Can a bent track be straightened?

Minor bends can usually be straightened in place. Sharp creases, cracks, or severe deformation require section replacement. We assess honestly — we never replace what can be safely repaired.

What causes tracks to bend?

Worn rollers are the #1 cause — flat spots put lateral force on the track. Vehicle impact, foundation settling, and forcing a stuck door also cause track damage. We diagnose and fix the root cause, not just the symptom.

How long does track repair take?

Most track repairs are completed in 45–90 minutes. Track realignment is the fastest. Section replacement takes longer. Same-day service for most calls received before noon.

Can I use my garage door if the track is slightly bent?

We don't recommend it. A bent track causes binding that stresses cables, springs, and the opener. Continued use turns a $150 repair into a $400+ multi-component failure. Call before it gets worse.

David did a fantastic job with the installation. The work looks great and the door operates silently. He corrected the installation errors which already existed from a previous installation/homeowner during his installation and he had a very professional demeanor. He also took the time afterwards to train my wife up on the app setup and usage for the family. I would’ve given a five star review except that we had ordered a sandstone color door and someone at the office decided that a tan color would look better for home citing home insurance concerns of some sort, not realizing we were cash customers. By the time my wife realized the changes, our old door had been removed and we felt stuck with the tan. The tan door does look good and we are happy with the job, but we didn’t get what we ordered and will never know if we may have liked sandstone more. Update: Since the door had been installed, the y have been out several times due to the door jumping the track. I was informed that it was because I hadn't lubed the rollers, so the technician serviced them without charge. When the door continued to jump track the owner came out to personally inspect the door, and found a section of quarter round trim was making contact with the door. He removed that section and I haven't had the problem again. Once again, free of charge. I certainly appreciate him coming out and finally determining the source of the problem. (This was several months ago) Last month my door opener quit working entirely, so I called them to inspect the issue. The same day, my new car parked in the driveway had quit working for an unknown reason. The assumption was the storm that had rolled through the night before had struck both with a bolt of lightning. The technician determined the outlet was still good, so the unit had been "struck by lightning" and you can't replace parts because it could cause everything else to go bad, and lightning strike won't be covered by warranty. He later said it could've been a power surge, instead of lightning, since I lost power during the storm. He sent me a $775.63 replacement quote for the needed repairs. I manage a local HVAC distributor and I always give the customer the benefit of the doubt when a warranty item is involved. Unfortunately, in this case, it seemed to me that they were attempting to get another pay day off of me without even attempting to make a warranty repair on the suspicion that I may have just had a board go bad. I contacted LiftMaster myself, told them the situation, ran through some troubleshooting, and they sent me a new board free of charge under warranty. I replaced the board myself and now have a functioning garage door again. Fortunately, I'm mechanically inclined and familiar with manufacturers warranty processes. Anyone less knowledgeable would've been out nearly $800 for no reason. I've chosen not to change my 4 star rating due to the effort they made to correct the door from jumping track, and because I belive this later issue may have been due to a greedy installer. (I assume they earn a commission for sales/upcharges)

Excellent and fast service. My garage door cable came off of the pully and was jammed. Half up and half down. Got online and scheduled an appointment for same day service. Within an hour or so they arrived at my business, told me what was wrong and how much it would cost to fix it. Within about 15 minutes the gentleman had the door fixed and fully operational. I also appreciated the email with the photo of the technician that was coming. Not such a big deal in business but I can see how that would be comforting if they were coming to you home. David was very professional and personable. His customer service skills are spot on. I would highly recommend Direct Service and David for any of your garage door servicing needs. both in business or home.

WOW! Travis was prompt and certainly knows what he is doing. I would happily recommend him to anyone. The door was off track, the cable was off on one side, the center support was bent, a wheel went missing; it was a hot mess! Travis restored it in just over 30 minutes. And that includes servicing it. He made it look like child's play! Thank you Travis!!

I had just moved into a new home. The second night the garage door came off the track and was only down about halfway. The garage was FULL of moving boxes—practically everything I own. On top of that I had an out of town appointment the next day at 11:30. I called for service a few minutes past eight the next morning, explaining my situation. A technician arrived at 9:00 and finished at 10:30 allowing me to make my appointment and leave my new home with peace of mind. The technician explained (in language I could understand) exactly what was wrong. He gave me the option for two fixes, one less permanent. The other option was fixing the door and correcting past mistakes. I am very grateful for the service and very satisfied with my “new” garage door!

My garage got off track and wouldn’t close at 8:00 at night. I live alone and was terrified I wasn’t going to find anyone to come out and fix it at that hour and get it closed. I called and talked to Travis who was extremely helpful and took my information and arrived just when he said he would an hour later. He was professional, knowledgeable, and most of all kind. He fixed my door, gave me a can of product to oil the tracks and hinges, and showed me how to apply it once a month. I highly recommend this company, I will call them again if I have anymore issues with my garage door.

My garage door jumped track on Halloween night. I contacted Travis and, even though he was with his family enjoying the evening, he responded in a manner that gave me great confidence in him and his company. After a few minutes of discussion we got details lined out and I was soon contacted by Jacob. He was wonderful on the phone and showed up for my appointment earlier than forecast that night. One hour later I was completely repaired and extremely satisfied! These guys are AWESOME!! I will happily recommend them at every opportunity!
